Hilton is thought to want to resume aborted negotiations with Six Continents (6C) about possibly merging the two hotel groups.
6C owns hotel brands such as InterContinental and Holiday Inn.
Richard North, who will be chief executive of Six Continents hotels after a forthcoming demerger from the pubs, is considering the sale of several properties. The company has received a £100m-plus offer for the Mayfair InterContinental in the West End of London.
