The House of Lords has upheld a sheep farmer’s claim for “squatter’s rights” on a grazing area in Caernarfon, Gwynedd.
John Williams, who farms various pieces of land in Caernarfon, including the Mwd, received Court of Appeal backing for his claims to ownership of the land in 2002. The court held that Williams had remained in continuous possession of the property since 1971, and that the defendants’ right to the land had been extinguished.
The House of Lords has refused the defendants permission for an appeal, but has given no reasons for its decision.
