It looks as if the only contenders left to win Safeway will be Philip Green and William Morrison, reports the Financial Times.
The Office of Fair Trading is expected in the next day or so to publish the thinking behind its reference to the Competition Commission of Morrisons’ bid and three other prospective offers.
Green is still favourite to win the battle, according to the Cantor Index.
