Philip Green is expected to consider his position with regard to a bid for Safeway over Easter.
Safeway is due to issue a trading statement tomorrow.
The Financial Times says this could strengthen Green’s hand and pave the way for an early cash bid.
However, Green is not expected to move quickly. The Observer reported yesterday that doubts were mounting about his bid intentions.
The Times publishes a corporate profile of William Morrison, the only company to have a firm bid on the table.
