Chance to have your say on e-conveyancing

The Lord Chancellor has today published an e-conveyancing consultation document and questionnaire.

The consultation sets out in broad terms the Land Registry’s proposals for a re-engineered conveyancing system, but is deliberately sketchy about the details of the plan.

“We don’t want to guess or speculate as to what will make the system easy or difficult for our customers to operate, or what additional features should or should not be included, or how it should fit in with the office and IT systems already in use in the property market,” says the Land Registry.

“We know that many questions of detail will emerge only as we conduct detailed discussions with users and with technical experts during the process of development. The results of this consultation exercise will assist us as we make a start on the detailed planning, because we want to build a system that has the broad agreement of all its users.”

The consultation document and questionnaire can both be accessed online at the Land Registry’s new e-conveyancing website, www.e-conveyancing.gov.uk.

Stakeholders and interested parties will have 14 weeks in which to respond to the consultation documents, with the results being published in the autumn. Consultation on more specific issues, such as security and network access systems, are expected to be issued at a later date.
