HM Land Registry has been awarded over £1.5m to develop and pilot a totally re-engineered system of conveyancing for England and Wales.
The funding, which was awarded under the Invest to Save Budget initiative, will be used to design, build and pilot the proposed new system of conveyancing, and to develop, in consultation with key stakeholders, a full business case for its implementation nationally.
Peter Collis, chief land registrar and chief executive at the Land Registry, said:
“This is excellent news for the Land Registry and for all the other participants in this exciting project. By abolishing paper, and conducting conveyancing online, this programme of work aims to make a real improvement to the way that property is bought and sold.
“Existing processes will be replaced with a totally ‘joined-up’ solution that is faster, more efficient, more reliable and more secure for all those involved in housing transactions in England and Wales.”
