Online conveyancing comes another step closer

HM Land Registry has awarded Compaq Services a £71m contract to design, implement and manage the IT infrastructure for its land registration systems.

This system will support the Land Registrys move towards integrating its computerised registers, title plans and supporting deeds, leading to improvements in the cost and time taken to process registrations.

Integration of these key records will enable the provision of on line access and will open up the future possibility of electronic conveyancing.

The deal is unusual in that the Land Registry retains control of the business process re-engineering, with Compaq, as a “strategic technology partner”, appointed to design, implement and manage the IT infrastructure.

To ensure that the system is fully operational and accessible at all times, the Land Registry has appointed Compaq to provide managed services for up to 10 years. Compaq will operate an on-site team that will work in partnership with Land Registry local system administrators.
