Tesco chief executive Sir Terry Leahy, in an exclusive interview with The Observer, said that the retailer is going “to think small” in future domestic plans.
He believes further growth in the UK will be focused on the development of the Tesco Express convenience store format.
But Leahy believes the most significant future growth will be achieved abroad.
Leahy said: “We have got to go abroad for growth. It will be hard work, but in 10 years’ time we will be far more international. Asia is an incredible market and we are in the best position of any retailer to expand there.”
