Lambert Smith Hampton’s Ski Challenge is now so popular that it is known as the MIPIM of the slopes.
Last month, 60 teams of the industry’s finest downhill specialists headed to the northern Italian resort of Courmayeur, in the shadow of Mont Blanc, to meet, greet, do a bit of business and invariably end the night in the Courmayeur’s most popular drinking establishment, Bar Roma.
From Wednesday 12 to Friday 14 January, teams practised hard, while spectators lent a hand with their après ski. But seriousness returned for race day on Saturday.
The skiing proved to be a bit tricky. Snow had not fallen on the mountain since Christmas Day. This left parts of the slope patchy, despite the best efforts of the snow cannons to spread the snow around. But nothing was going to deter the skiers.
Taking the fastest team award was CBRE, while Lorne Noble of King Sturge and Nicola Guthrie of Broadland Properties received the sought-after Estates Gazette cups for fastest male and fastest female, respectively.
Presenting the awards before a 300-strong audience at the Congress Centre, LSH chairman Bruce Brown said: “It’s been another fantastic Challenge.
“The huge number of entrants to this year’s grand slalom and people attending overall just goes to show that the event continues to go from strength to strength.”
