Ask prepares application for mixed-use Bury scheme

Ask Developments, in a joint venture with Bury council, is about to submit a planning application for a £58m mixed-use development in the Lancashire town.

The 350,000 sq ft Townside Fields scheme is situated next to Bury town hall and the Metrolink tram station in central Bury.

It comprises 125,000 sq ft of offices, 225,000 sq ft of residential apartments and 3,000 sq ft of retail space in four blocks.

Designs by the jv, known as Askbury, are being finalised and are likely to be submitted for planning in May.

Askbury says it is already in discussions with an occupier interested in signing for 50,000 sq ft at the development.

Bury council has already signed for a further 46,000 sq ft prelet at the scheme, which it will occupy in March 2007.

Council leader John Byrne said: “The council recognises the importance of Townside Fields and this is reflected in our decision to take new office accommodation to kickstart the scheme.”

David Burkinshaw, director at Ask Developments, said: “We are receiving significant occupier interest in this scheme and we are pushing ahead with the planning and a substantial first phase of commercial and residential development.”

King Sturge is agent on the scheme.
