Wynyard wins consent for business park on Samsung site

Chris Musgrave’s Wynyard has been given the go-ahead for a £45m business park on the site of the former Samsung complex at Wynyard, Billingham in Teesside.

In order to grant consent, the council has relaxed restrictions which confined development on the site to units for electrical components manufacturing.

The change in condition is a major breakthrough for Musgrave who has been trying to create a new business park on the 207-acre site since he acquired it from Samsung in 2004.

Chris Musgrave, managing director of Wynyard said: “This planning application was always going to be our biggest hurdle and we are delighted that Stockton council has given its approval.

“We are now one step nearer to creating the business park we have been promising since we took over the site.”

The removal of the restriction, which was attached to planning permission granted in 1994, now paves the way for companies already signed up to the site to submit detailed planning applications.

Helioslough has already submitted plans for a 400,000 sq ft distribution centre on 38 acres and Priority Sites, a joint venture between Royal Bank of Scotland and English Partnerships, is about to submit plans to create around 60,000 sq ft of mixed-use space.

Wynyard has also set aside a further £10m for the development of 50,000 sq ft of offices.

Work is expected to start on the site in the summer.
