Plans were submitted this week for a mixed-use development on 110 acres of land close to Reading FC’s Madejski Stadium.
Foudry Properties, a joint venture between Thames Water and Prudential, is proposing 1,150 residential units, including affordable housing, up to 1.2m sq ft of office, a high-quality hotel, and 50,000 sq ft of retail space for local shops, cafés and restaurants.
The site, near Whitley to the north of GreenPark, Prudential’s office park on the southern outskirts of the town, is owned by Thames Water and Reading borough council.
Thames Water has already been granted planning permission for 850 houses on part of the site.
The scheme will take 10-15 years to complete and will incorporate the necessary transport infrastructure, including a rapid transport link from the proposed railway station at GreenPark to Reading town centre, and improvements to the A33.
The commercial element will be developed by Foudry Properties and the residential element by St James Homes.
The plan to regenerate south Reading began a decade ago with the relocation of the football stadium.
