Islanders angry as Prince’s estate seeks top holiday rents

Inhabitants on the Isles of Scilly are said to be “appalled and disgusted” by the Prince of Wales’ decision to enter the holiday-home business on the island for the first time.

The Duchy of Cornwall his landed estate – has renovated a granite two-bedroom home and has put the cottage up for rent for as much as £1,500 per week.

There is a chronic shortage of housing on the island and with many islanders earning less than £10,000 a year, it is hard for them to pay more than £100 a week in rent.

The Duchy owns 330 just under 30 per cent of the 1,150 residential properties on the islands.
