The Youth Hostels Association’s (YHA) national council will next month discuss closing and selling off dozens of youth hostels to help service its £34m debts.
The body has 227 hostels across England and Wales, 39 of which make a loss. Many others are borderline.
YHA wants to sell many of them so it can modernise others and open new properties in cities such as Cardiff, Birmingham and London.
