Momart blaze artists to sue

Artists, collectors and insurance companies plan to take legal action against the owners of the Momart storage facility that was razed by fire in May 2004.

More than 100 works of art were destroyed in the London blaze. The litigants, who are claiming up to £15m, allege that the premises were unsuitable as a storage location for fine art because they were sited among units with a high fire risk.

Momart denies negligence and says that the fire had been caused by arson in an adjacent warehouse.
