Development agency Scottish Enterprise Forth Valley (SEFV) has paid tinfoil manufacturer Novelis £4m for a 35-acre site in Falkirk.
The 425,000 sq ft factory on the site will be demolished.
SEFV wants an industrial owner-occupier or developer to take the site forward.
