Strawsons joins Gladman on largest Scottish spec shed

Strawsons Property has teamed up with Gladman Developments to develop Scotland’s largest speculative distribution unit.

As reported on EGi News, Gladman has submitted a detailed planning application for a 600,000 sq ft warehouse on 33.5-acres at the J4 M8 distribution park in West Lothian.

Scotland’s largest speculative stand-alone warehousing unit is currently a 100,000 sq ft shed at Eurocentral in Lanarkshire, also on the M8 corridor.

Jim Ogden, Development Manager for Strawsons, said: “Up to now, many retailers and distribution companies have been able to service the Scottish market from mega sheds in the North West and the Midlands.

“We envisage more locally-available distribution hubs to be the key to many retailers’ requirements.

Potential occupiers are thought to include supermarket chain Morrisons, which is looking for a permanent home for its distribution operation in Scotland.

Morrisons currently holds two short leases at Eurocentral and The Pyramids in Bathgate.

In addition, third-party distributors Wincanton and TDG are looking for space.

Jones Lang LaSalle and CB Richard Ellis advised Strawsons while Gladman Developments was represented by James Barr.

JLL and James Barr will act on behalf of Gladman/Strawsons as joint letting agents when the scheme is complete.
