Go-ahead for £35m East London residential scheme

Newham Borough Council has granted planning consent for a £35m residential-led development at Stratford High Street, East London.

The 1.5-acre scheme, on the edge of the proposed Olympic park, comprises 301 homes, a portion of which will be affordable housing, retail and commercial units, and a new public area.

The development, devised by architects and urban designers Stock Woolstencroft for Aitch Group and Toynbee Housing Association, will comprise three buildings, including a 22-storey tower.

All the homes in the development, located at the junction of the A12 and A11, will be built to ensure best practice energy consumption targets are met, and the development achieves more than 10% renewable energy.

Work is due to start on site in summer 2006.
