MIPIM 2006: MEPC chosen for Leeds’ Wellington Place

MEPC has been selected as development partner on Hermes’ 2.7m-sq ft Wellington Place in Leeds.

The appointment is part of a ten-year development programme for the mixed-use scheme, which encompasses a 22-acre site in central Leeds.

Rupert Clarke, head of real estate at Hermes, said: “We have taken great care in selecting a development partner in MEPC which is best able to deliver our long-term vision for Wellington Place as an exciting and sustainable new business, leisure and residential quarter of the city.”

Rick de Blaby, chief executive of MEPC said: “our vision is to create a vibrant and sustainable sense of place and community, one that creates an attractive environment for living and working.”

Blaby also said that MEPC may tackle the residential element alone rather than rely on a house builder – something MEPC hasn’t done before.

The scheme is currently undergoing consultation on specific design proposals.

Details of new developments at the scheme will be announced in the next few months.
