Developers sought for Norfolk seafront site

Great Yarmouth Borough Council is seeking a development partner for a 30-acre seafront site in the Norfolk town.

Outline proposals for the site, which stretches from the Marina Leisure Centre on the waterfront up to but not including the Winter Gardens, are to be received by Monday 18th September 2006.

The site includes the Sealife Centre and Amazonia, a tropical garden and reptile collection.

Mark Barrow, Corporate Director for Great Yarmouth Borough Council, said: “We would like to work in partnership with potential developers and we are open to a variety of different proposals.

“Our overall aim is to extend the season in Great Yarmouth and we have a range of ambitious plans to transform the town by 2020. A key part of that is to develop the famous Golden Mile to meet the tourism needs in the 21st century.”

The council is hoping to increase tourism in the area and build on current development plans including the creation of an outer harbour to attract additional trade from Holland.
