St James/Tesco prepare for Woolwich development

St James and supermarket giant Tesco are preparing a planning application for the redevelopment of 8.5 acres in Woolwich town centre.

The pair want to demolish the existing buildings at the Love Lane site to provide a comprehensive mixed-use scheme.

This would include 231,400 sq ft of civic offices, a 21,500 sq ft library, a 131,000 sq ft Tesco and six further shops totalling 26,000 sq ft, in addition to around 1,000 homes.

Construction of the civic offices is expected to start in January 2007, while the retail construction will start in 2010, followed by a phased residential development that is scheduled to be completed in December 2014.

GL Hearn is the planning consultant; ColladoCollins is the architect.
