Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott had planned to defy his critics this week by pressing ahead with face-to-face talks with Philip Anschutz, but the tycoon bidding to house super-casino in the Millennium Dome pulled out after a furore erupted over their relationship.
The meeting would have been their eighth since 2002.
