Network Rail has signed a lease with hotel operator Sleeperz for a 75-bedroom hotel next to Piccadilly Station in central Manchester.
The deal is one of a series negotiated with the railways operator by Sleeperz, which will operate budget hotels at stations around the UK.
Sleeperz has already opened an outlet in Cambridge and has agreed terms on another in Newcastle.
The Cambridge hotel offers single rooms from £39 including breakfast.
The £4.5m Manchester hotel is situated on a plot opposite the Fairfield Street station entrance.
It is let on a 99-year lease and planning permission has already been granted.
John Pike, Network Rail’s director of commercial property said: “We are continually striving to maximise value from our property portfolio and we are delighted to be working with Sleeperz in identifying suitable sites for this new chain of ‘glorious’ railway hotels.”
Work on site will start in September with the opening due in late 2007.
