Malory Clifford’s Blackfriars Investment and Royal London Asset Management have received consent for the installation of 14 wind turbines on top of the 300,000 sq ft Palestra building, SE1.
Southwark council wants the ‘renewable energy’ retrofit of the Alsop-designed building set to house Transport for London and the London Development Agency – to act as a model for developers introducing post-construction sustainability measures.
The turbines will be attached to photovoltaic cells on top of the building on London’s Blackfriars Road, neither of which were included in original plans for the 300,000 sq ft scheme.
The London Development Agency (LDA), which agreed a 55,000 sq ft letting of the building in January, requested the application in light of revised renewable energy and carbon emission targets.
Transport for London announced in June it was taking 200,000 sq ft at the building.
