Transport for London (TfL) has unveiled plans for a new “London Overground” rail system that would link seamlessly with the Tube.
The North London Line will link into the East London line when it opens in 2010 after a £1bn extension via a new £400m link at Dalston Junction, to create “a new rail artery around the city”.
London mayor Ken Livingstone said the overground would develop into a “major new system” for the capital.
TfL plans to boost capacity on the line and upgrade and improve stations. The lines will ruin from Watford Junction, in the north, Richmond in the west, Barking and Stratford, in the east and West Croydon, in the south.
A potential second phase of the east London line project could link Clapham Junction to Surrey Quays to form a circle of surface lines around London’s central area.
