Ask and Realty complete on Manchester Boddingtons scheme

Ask Developments and joint venture partner Realty Estates have completed the purchase of the former Boddingtons brewery site in central Manchester.

The sale price is unconfirmed but is believed to total around £10m.

The jv has appointed architects HOK and EDAW to take on a masterplanning exercise for the landmark site.

The redevelopment is likely to include what the jv describes as “high quality, employment generating” uses.

It will feed into the wider regeneration of the Strangeways area, which is supported by Manchester city council.

Ken Knott, chief executive of Ask, said: “We are delighted to have purchased this great site with Realty as it enjoys an important position at the northern gateway to the city centre.”

Sir Howard Bernstein, chief Executive of Manchester city council, added: “This is a welcome step towards bringing this important site back into an employment-generating use, supporting both city centre business growth and the wider regeneration of North Manchester.”

Manchester-based Realty’s previous work includes schemes in Atherton, Glossop and Stoke.

It also owns Gateway House in Manchester’s Piccadilly, where it recently erected a giant external screen.
