Turley Associates appointed on Peel’s Wirral scheme

Planning specialist Turley Associates has been appointed to advise on Peel Holdings’ £4.5bn Wirral Waters regeneration scheme.

The company will act as lead consultant on the planning and urban design strategy.

The 18m sq ft scheme was revealed by Peel in September and involves the regeneration of Birkenhead docks to include up to 5m sq ft of offices, 11m sq ft of residential and 600,000 sq ft of retail and leisure.

At least three skyscrapers are planned for the site, which Peel claims will rank the Wirral alongside Shanghai and New York.

Rob Turley, chairman of Turley Associates, said: “We are delighted to be involved with such a prestigious project.

“We believe our involvement in a project of this scale and complexity is a clear recognition of our track record in delivery through our integrated planning and urban design teams.”

Others involved in the scheme are architect Broadway Malyan and transport consultant Savell Bird and Axon.

An outline planning application for the first phase is anticipated in late 2007.

The development is due to be phased over 30 years.
