One of Scotland’s largest brownfield development sites is being offered to private developers.
Glasgow’s 38.5-acre Ruchill Hospital grounds, which have been closed for seven years, have been put up for sale by Glasgow Council.
The site, located two miles north of Glasgow city centre, is earmarked for 300 privately developed homes and apartments, in both refurbished listed buildings and new-build houses, in a bid to drive the renaissance of North Glasgow.
It has been valued at between £3-5m, with development costs expected to reach £80m.
Colliers CRE, which is sole agent on behalf of Scottish Enterprise Glasgow, said it was anticipating keen interest.
Director Roddy Pearson said: “This site provides a rare opportunity for developers to revitalise a strategically important area, which has witnessed significant levels of private housing development in recent years.
“The listed buildings on the site, in particular the Grade A-listed Water Tower, a well-known and prominent landmark from many parts of Glasgow, represent an especially exciting opportunity to provide something innovative close to the city centre.”
