Budget fashion retailer, TK Maxx, has opened its first stand-alone store concept in Scotland, following the £3m purchase of the former River Street Asda store in Ayr earlier this month.
The fashion retailer bought the 55,000 sq ft unit from Adsa, which was closed in 2004 after the supermarket relocated to a new store at Heathfield Retail Park.
TK Maxx started trading from its new store earlier this month, as it had agreed an early entry prior to completing the purchase.
The stand-alone concept was first introduced in Swindon all of its other outlets are located on the high street or within retail parks. It now wants to roll this concept out through the rest of the UK.
Commenting on the sale, Keith Aitken, head of agency in Scotland at GVA Grimley, said: “The River Street store was perfect for TK Maxx, as it offered sufficient floorspace to accommodate an in-store café and was the ideal location for TK Maxx’s first stand-alone store in Scotland.”
TK Maxx was represented in the sale by Reith Lambert and Asda by GVA Grimley.
