Harvey Nichols plans extension at Brum store

Department store Harvey Nichols has announced plans to expand the size of its Birmingham Mailbox store by around 35%.

The store, which opened five years ago, will take over two adjacent units totalling 4,800 sq ft on a 35-year lease bringing their store area to 20,800 sq ft.

Trading will continue at the store and the larger store is scheduled to open in autumn next year.

The final phase of The Mailbox, The Cube, is under construction and will add a further 500,000 sq ft to the mall which in total will comprise 2m sq ft of space.

Joseph Wan, CEO of Harvey Nichols Group, said: “We are extremely excited by our expansion.

“It reflects not only the success of our store in Birmingham but also the success of the city itself as a first class shopping destination.

“Over the last five years, retail in Birmingham has changed out of all recognition, and I firmly believe that much of this confidence has come from companies such as ours deciding to open there.

“Expanding our store by more than 30% will mean even greater choice and even more luxury brands for shoppers in the city.”

Harvey Nichols currently has six stores in the UK and Ireland including London, Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester, Edinburgh and Dublin.
