Rock gets green-light for £80m Wokingham scheme

Rock Investment Group (RIG) has been given the green light for the £80m redevelopment of Wokingham town centre.

The private property company owned by Roger Smee will redevelop a 162,000 sq ft site into a mixed-use development comprising 137 flats, 5 town houses, 24 retail units and a 198 spaces multi-storey car park.

The pedestrianised scheme will be set around a new piazza with public open space, cafes, restaurants and retail core with residential accommodation above.

Wokingham District Council and RIG will now work together using compulsory purchase powers to complete the site assembly.

Smee commented: “This is a perfect example of public and private interests working together to give Wokingham the town centre it merits for the benefit of all concerned.

“I am grateful to the Councillors, Officers and my own professional team for their dedication imagination and support.”
