English Heritage (EH) has backed architect Frank Gehry’s revised designs for ING Real Estate and Karis Developments’ King Alfred scheme in Hove.
The public body said it was “for the most part content” with the new designs for the £290m scheme.
The latest proposals reduce the height of four buildings and increase the height of the two residential towers and four additional buildings.
Amendments have also been made to the appearance of the perimeter block and energy efficient measures have been introduced.
The mixed-use scheme comprises 751 flats in two towers and eight other blocks, ground floor retail, restaurants and cafés and bars, a new public sports centre, basement car parking, doctors surgery, police office and public toilets.
The announcement comes a few days after CABE said that it now approved of the revised designs, having called the original proposals for much of the scheme “banal”.
