Postwatch slams lack of consultation on closures

Postwatch says post office closures will be “rushed through” in only six weeks without local residents having a chance to respond.

Alistair Darling, trade and industry secretary, told a select committee meeting that longer consultation would lead to “uncertainty” and might hurt the sub post office business.

Darling said the government would use common sense when deciding which branches to close.
