Vermont gets permission for £40m Salford scheme

Liverpool-based Vermont Developments has been granted planning permission for a £40m mixed-use scheme in Salford, Greater Manchester.

Adelphi Street, Salford

The 26-storey tower will be built at Adelphi Street and features 221 residential units alongside 35,000 sq ft of commercial space.

It stands at the gateway to the New Chapel Street regeneration area, which is being overseen by urban regeneration company Central Salford.

Mark Connor, chief executive of Vermont Developments, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have reached this milestone in the project.

“The scheme makes provision for a new bridge over the River Irwell and provides a gateway that will create an important new link between Adelphi Street, the Salford university campus and green space on the other side of the Irwell.”

The scheme is designed by architect DTR, alongside Will Alsop’s SMC Alsop.

Work is expected to start on-site in mid July 2007 with completion anticipated early in 2009.

Adelphi Street follows the Quebec Building in Bury Street as the second recent scheme Vermont has undertaken in Salford.

Vermont’s schemes in Liverpool include The Sefton Street Quarter, a £100m mixed-use development near the waterfront.

Liverpool planners are currently considering the company’s proposals for a 60,000 sq ft office scheme on Chapel Street in Liverpool city centre.
