St Modwen has been chosen as the investment partner for the £1bn regeneration of Medway in the Thames Gateway area. The regeneration specialist beat off competition from more than 20 contenders to form a 50:50 partnership with Medway council, which will invest in developments at Chatham, Rochester, Gillingham and Strood. The 158-acre Chatham town centre is the largest project and includes plans for 16,000 new homes, a £160m expansion of Chatham’s Pentagon shopping centre, a £78m investment in arts project centres, and a £60m Dickens World theme park in Chatham Maritime leisure complex. The appointment was announced just after Irish retail investor BHL paid £93m for the Pentagon centre.
