Merseyside container port gets green light

Liverpool is set to become a leading UK gateway for container trade with the United States following the approval of plans for a shipping terminal.   Mersey Docks and Harbour Company says the Seaforth River Terminal will see the Port of Liverpool double the amount of cargo it can handle.   The £80m container port will stretch from Seaforth Dock to the river wall at the Gladstone River entrance.   Concerns about the scheme’s impact on the environment prompted a public inquiry, which was held last year.
