Elphinstone and City Lofts team up for Scotland’s tallest tower

Elphinstone Group has teamed up with urban mixed-use developer City Lofts for the development of Elphinstone Place, Scotland’s tallest tower.

Elphinstone Place: Scotland's tallest tower

Glasgow-based developer Elphinstone was granted detailed permission for the 40-storey scheme on the site of the former Strathclyde council HQ in 2004.

The £120m structure on India Street will be nine metres higher than the tower at the Glasgow Science Centre, currently Scotland’s tallest structure.

The scheme will include 208 flats and 171,000 sq ft of offices. The majority of the offices, 120,000 sq ft, will be located in the seven-story Atrium building next to the tower.

Elphinstone’s chief executive and chairman Ken Ross said: “We create strategic alliances for some key developments, and this joint venture with City Lofts Group is along the same lines as what we have previously done with David Hunter.

“We felt that City Lofts could bring specialist knowledge and experience of high-rise buildings to this flagship development.”

Demolition of the existing property will finish this month and the new scheme is due for completion by 2010.

CBRE advised Elphinstone on site assembly and planning for Elphinstone Place. Letting agents will be appointed in due course.
