Property tycoons big on Rich List

Property has added to the wealth of more than 220 people who are included in the 1,000 richest people in Britain.

The Duke of Westminster is the richest property tycoon in The Sunday Times Rich List, published yesterday, with a fortune of £7bn putting him third.

David Khalili takes fifth place with a £5.8m fortune generated through property and art, with David and Simon Reuben sharing ninth place with £3.49m.

Northern Irish property tycoon Sean Quinn, founder of the Quinn Group, shares 12th place ahead of property and health club entrepreneur Simon Halabi at 14th.

Chelsea has proved to be a winner for The Earl of Cadogan and family who take 17th place with a wealth of £2.61m, followed by Iraqi-born hotelier Nadhmi Auchi who takes 18th place.

Poju Zabludowicz, who recently sold Princes Arcade on London’s Piccadilly for about £120m, Richard Desmond and the Healey brothers are all listed in the mid-twenties.

Ian and Richard Livingstone, who are ranked fifth on the table of the year’s biggest risers, jump to 29th place with a wealth of £1.88m followed by the Telegraph Group owners the Barclay brothers.

Baroness Howard de Walden and family take 31st place, with Mark Pears and family, John Whittaker and Eddie and Sol Zakay also ranked in the 30s.

Bernard Lewis and family head the 40s, which also feature Viscount Portman and family, Chris Lazari, Benzion Freshwater and family, with Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou and family edging into the top 50 at 49th place.

Scotland’s first homegrown billionaire Sir Tom Hunter falls 60th equal, ahead of property and leisure entrepreneur Trevor Hemmings in 69th place

Vincent and Tchenguiz share 78th place with a wealth of £850m ahead of John Christodoulou at 82nd.

Sir Alan Sugar weighs in at 84th, with London-based Leo Noe and family taking 95th place.
