The corporation said the key regeneration site, next to a 40-acre plot owned by the London Development Agency and AXA, had been bought to safeguard part of the route of the planned East London Transit, and allow for the development of a new school with affordable housing.
Ford is moving from the 65,000 sq ft premises, to a 3.5-acre site in Barking on a 25-year lease from Barking and Dagenham council, where it plans to build a new 46,875 sq ft dealership.
The new development, taken at an undisclosed rent, will include a wind turbine and other sustainable energy measures to comply with the Mayor of London’s requirement for renewable energy on new developments.
