DTZ replaces Erinaceous as Spinningfields agent

Allied London will announce today that DTZ has been appointed at its 2.4m sq ft Spinningfields scheme in central Manchester.

The firm beat off competition from Cushman & Wakefield, CB Richard Ellis and Knight Frank to land the instruction.

It will be joint agent on the scheme alongside Jones Lang LaSalle.

Allied has been deliberating over the appointment of agents for the scheme after inviting pitches in May.

The developer made the decision to drop Erinaceous as joint letting agent last month, ending the agent’s 10-year association with the scheme through former subsidiary Dunlop Haywards.

Despite Erinaceous’ recent link-up with New Jersey-based NAI Global, sources said the developer regards the lack of an established global infrastructure within Erinaceous as a problem.

Allied is keen to attract international occupiers to Spinningfields, where office lettings so far have come mainly from firms relocating within Manchester.

The instruction is a coup for the Manchester office of DTZ, and, in particular, veteran office agent Ken Bishop.

The firm fought off a late rally from CBRE, whose expertise in the London investment market, as well as its young Manchester-based office agency team, is said to have impressed Allied’s management.

DTZ’s first task will be to let 270,000 sq ft of speculative office space at 3 Hardman Street, which Allied launched last at an event last month.

Peter Gallagher, North West head of agency at Erinaceous, said: “The emergence of the Spinningfields business district is changing the map of Manchester and I am proud of our involvement in making just a little piece of history in my own city.

“Whilst naturally I am disappointed that my work on this project has now come to an end, it’s clearly time for us both to move on.

“I’m sure Spinningfields will continue to enjoy success and my team will go on doing what it does best – being at the very top of its game in the local and regional markets.”

Markham Vaughan Gillingham and GVA Grimley will continue to advise on the retail and leisure element of Spinningfields.

DTZ, JLL and Allied would not comment.
