Comic Distributor picks Runcorn for national warehouse

Diamond Comic Distributors, the world’s largest distributor of English language comics, has chosen a Runcorn warehouse for its new national distribution centre.

The US-based comic book company has signed a deal with North West developer Property Alliance Group (PAG) for Canalside, an 80,000 sq ft two-storey warehouse.

Diamond Comic Distributors has committed to a 10-year lease on the building at close to the asking rent of around £3 per sq ft.

The Cheshire warehouse was acquired by PAG in 2006 through agents Edwin Hill who, with CBRE, jointly advised them on the lease deal.

Diamond Comic Distributors were unrepresented.

Edwin Hill associate partner Julian Hamer said: “Diamond Comic Distributors has been scouring the Cheshire area for some time to find the right space.

“Canalside beat off strong competition to secure the deal, providing an unusually configured two-storey building which has been offered on competitive terms and is well-positioned for the M56 and regional motorways.

“Comics will be flying out of there!”

John Hitchen, general manager at Diamond Comics Distributors, said: “The company is growing from strength to strength and our former base could not facilitate our expansion.

“Canalside provides us with a national depot comprising both administrative and storage space in an ideal location for distribution purposes.”
