British Land and Lend Lease join forces for Basildon

British Land and Australian developer Lend Lease have joined forces to bid for the £1bn regeneration of Basildon town centre in Essex. The duo was shortlisted last night by Basildon council along with three other heavyweight consortiums. They are: John Laing/Gladedale/Scarborough Taylor Wimpey/Quintain Wilson Bowden/Barratt Homes The scheme comprises 530,000 sq ft of shopping and leisure facilities, 600,000 sq ft of offices and 3,650 homes. A partner will be selected by May 2008. Councillor Stephen Horgan, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Green Issues, said:  “This is a major milestone in taking forward the regeneration of Basildon town centre.”  DTZ is advising the council.
