Sir Alan Sugar’s Amsprop has teamed up with developer Turnhold to buy a brownfield site close to Luton airport.
The pair have bought a 5.4-acre site on Eaton Green Road and Airport Way from General Motors for around £5m.
The site, which was previously used by Vauxhall as a lorry park, has a lapsed consent for 95,000 sq ft of industrial development. However, the land is within a key employment area and Amsprop/Turnhold hope to develop a car showroom, hotel and petrol station on the site.
The lorry park sits alongside Vauxhall’s former factory in the Bedfordshire town. The 55-acre site was sold to a consortium comprising developer URUK and Laing O’Rouke in June 2004. It plans to build 1,000 homes, 490,000 sq ft of offices, 128,000 sq ft of light industrial space, 43,000 sq ft of shops and a 200-bedroom hotel and conference centre on the site.
