The Open Space Society has reported that village greens are enjoying a resurgence.
It believes recognition of the benefits of such spaces as well as residents wanting to fight off developments for housing and supermarket have driven the revival.
The Commons Act 2006 has boosted the chances of getting greens registered by limiting the way landowners can defeat a genuine application.
