Economic growth and falling unemployment have given a boost to the commercial property market in Brussels.
In the first half year of this year, 339,000m2 of space was leased, around 100,000m2 more than last year’s record level of 75,000m2. The level of empty space fell as a result of high demands, from 8.1% to 6.8% by the end of June this year.
A further 550,000m2 of space is currently under construction, with other properties still in the planning phase. More than a third of leasing contracts in 2000 have gone to technology, media and telecommunications companies, most notably Belgacom Mobile, IBM, Ericsson, Banksys and Lernhout & Hauspie.
Established companies such as BT, Level 3, Cisco and Broadnet are planning to expand their presence in Brussels.
