Shortlist unveiled for 460-acre Swindon new town

Swindon council has announced the shortlist of developers for Wichelstowe, a 460-acre extension of  the Wiltshire town. The shortlist comprises:  Orion Land and Leisure, Skanska and LXB3  St Modwen Bloor Homes Construction company Vinci and Grainger Trust Swindon council is preparing to sell the land for the scheme, which will consist of 3,500 homes, three village centres, offices, schools, public spaces, and a range of amenities. The 460-acre site (previously known as the Southern Development Area) is located in the town’s West Wichel and Middle Wichel districts, north of the M4 between junction 16 and Croft Road. Shortlisted developers will have until July to submit tenders, with the final selection being made by the council by the end of July. The local council is now working with Taylor Wimpey on the development of the remainder of the land, the 93-home Front Garden scheme in East Wichel.
