St Modwen has unveiled detailed proposals for the redevelopment of Skelmersdale town centre.
Plans for the 250-acre site include 250,000 sq ft of shops, a 100,000 sq ft retail park, a 90,000 sq ft food store and a 20,000 sq ft cinema.
There will also be 1,150 homes, of which 115 will be affordable units. House sales are expected to pay for the non-commercial aspects of the scheme.
Chris Newsome, St Modwen’s regional director for the North West, said: “This development will try to stem a lot of the retail leakage we see going to surrounding areas.”
The masterplan is now out for public consultation and St Modwen intends to submit a planning application in Autumn 2009.
Cushman & Wakefield is letting agent for the scheme.
