The Bank of New York Mellon has confirmed it is to take an additional 50,000 sq ft in Manchester as it expands its European operations.

The global financial services company, which has 72,000 sq ft in the city at One Piccadilly Gardens, has taken a pre-let on 3 Hardman Street, at Allied London’s Spinningfields development.

The bank said heads of terms were being finalised and solicitors had been instructed on the letting, in the heart of the 4.6m sq ft business district.

Allied London beat off competition from Langtree Group’s 100,000 sq ft 40 Spring Gardens and Wilson Bowden’s 103,000 sq ft Belvedere on Booth Street to secure the deal.

Jackie Williams, managing director of the Bank of New York Mellon, said: “Manchester has proven itself as an ideal location to support our rapid growth and it has become a major success story for our global operations in just over two and a half years.

“Taking 50,000 sq ft at 3 Hardman Street will ensure we have the additional capacity to continue building our operations here in Manchester and signifies the continuing global expansion of The Bank of New York Mellon.”

Savills advised Bank of New York Mellon. JLL and DTZ are agents for Spinningfields.
