Halifax and Uxbridge least popular UK destinations

Property website Moveme.com has released the results of its first quarterly Migration Monitor, a survey to track moving trends and the UK’s most popular destinations.

Halifax was found to be the least popular destination, with 57.1% more movers looking to move out of the area than into it, and Truro proved to be the most popular destination for home movers, with 40% more people looking to move into than out of the Cornish city.

The survey, which monitored 22,000 movers, found Uxbridge to be the second most unpopular destination, with 54% more movers looking to move out of than into the area.

Moveme.com also found a trend of home buyers moving away from cities including London and Birmingham, and moving into more rural locations, with all of the UK’s top ten cities recording outward migration in Q1 of 2008.

The property group also launched its new site this week, expanding to cover both renters and buyers, and including a search engine, free Moveplanner tool, a search engine and data on the residential industry.

Moveme.com was originally launched in January 2007, before being redesigned, and has more than 100,000 members. It is backed by the founder of lastminute.com, Brent Hoberman.
