Regeneration of Manchester’s Langley estate moves forward

Work on the regeneration of the Langley estate in Middleton, Greater Manchester, has moved forward following the start of valuation work on land interests in the area.   Manchester-based Stevens Scanlan is currently working on the valuation of 76 sites on the estate, with work due to complete on May 16.   The aim is to establish values for a number of development sites in preparation for the creation of a new commercial core, 600 new homes and new parkland.   A masterplan for the former council estate is being overseen by development manager Eye.   The scheme is part of the government’s controversial Housing Market Renewal Initiative, which is targeting land on Langley owned by Rochdale council and Bowlee Park Housing Association.   The 3,000-home estate, built in the 1950s as overspill for Manchester, was one of the biggest council estates in the UK and the backdrop for the 1993 Ken Loach film Raining Stones.   david.quinn@rbi.co.uk
